Objective: 

This course will enable students to develop expertise in psycho diagnostics and assessment, including case history writing, clinical assessment, emergency interventions, use of psycho-diagnostic tools, and understanding ethical issues in clinical practice.

CO75: Demonstrate active listening skills and aspects of writing a clinical case history and developing treatment plans.

CO76: Develop competencies for assessing the psychological functioning of individuals through techniques such as psychological assessment, observation and interviewing.

CO77: Appreciate the approaches to handling individuals in an emergency situation and use of relevant risk management strategies.

CO78: Analyse the use & applications of various Psycho-diagnostic tools.

CO79: Demonstrate awareness of ethico-legal issues and other critical issues associated with psychotherapy.

Emergency Interventions

Approach to the Patient; Risk management for common psychiatric emergencies, Psychosis, Mania, Anxiety, Disposition.

Psycho-diagnostic tools

Types of scales and what they measure; Measurement Procedure; Selection of Psychiatric Rating scales: Functional Status, Impairment, and General Symptom Severity; Clinical Disorder specific scales

Ethics in Clinical Psychological and Allied Sciences

Current bioethical Principles: Autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence, justice, professionalism; Ethics in Psychiatry: boundaries, informed consent, dual roles, training, research; Cultural themes and Essential Skills Psychiatry.
